Pregnant and parenting moms in need are in our parishes and our neighborhoods. As Pope Francis reminds us, our parishes need to be “islands of mercy in the midst of the sea of indifference.” Everyone in the parish community should know where to refer a pregnant woman in need. Inspired by St. John Paul II’s to assess our efforts in building a culture of life, the intention of Walking with Moms in Need is to increase our outreach to pregnant and parenting women facing difficulties.

The Food Pantry - This volunteer would assist with stocking shelves, client selections, scheduling appointments and some light cleaning.
Food Pantry Delivery - The volunteer will assist with unloading the delivery from the Greater Lansing Food Bank, taking inventory, stock shelves, breaking down cardboard and cleaning the pantry. There is some heavy lifting involved.
Clothing Closet - This volunteer would be sorting and hanging donations, assisting clients with finding items, counting the number of items they chose and recording the number. Also some light cleaning.
Morning Kitchen Volunteer - This volunteer will help the cook if needed. The volunteer will also mingle with the clients who are eating or relaxing in the cafeteria. Warming up coffee and clearing dishes also.

O Blessed Mother, you received the good news of the incarnation of Christ, your Son, with faith and trust. Grant your protection to all pregnant mothers facing difficulties.
Guide us as we strive to make our parish communities places of welcome and assistance for mothers in need. Help us become instruments of God’s love and compassion.
Mary, Mother of the Church, graciously help us build a culture of life and a civilization of love, together with all people of good will, to the praise and glory of God, the Creator and lover of life. Amen.
